Material:
- The exterior mirror cap is made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP, carbon) and is sealed with clear varnish.
- The material is UV, temperature and water resistant.
Material information: The carbon ranges are handmade. The cutting and draping of the fabric layers, the curing process of the plastic matrix and the milling of the raw parts takes several hours. The subsequent coating is a particular challenge. In order to increase the unmistakable depth effect of the carbon fabric, the components are painted several times. Each individual layer of varnish has to be dried and then sanded. After applying the last layer of paint, the carbon part is polished to a high gloss (exception are the open-pored carbon versions). The carbon components are qualified according to the applicable BMW standard. This is the only way to ensure that the high requirements, e.g. Aging and temperature resistance without cracking or paint solutions are fulfilled by the substrate and avoiding yellowing of the matrix. This high degree of manual labour and qualification effort is responsible for the price.
